Most of us celebrate Mother’s Day the first Sunday of
May. However, this celebration hasn’t always been like this, and it isn’t the
same in every country.
The first celebrations of the Mother’s Day began in
the Ancient Greece, where people honored Rhea, mother of Jupiter, Neptune and
Pluto. Egypt also honored Isis, God of
maternity and birth.
During the XVII century, a way of working was laboring
in big houses and palaces. One Sunday a year servants could have a free day to
visit their moms and they could also bake a cake to give their mothers as a
gift.
In the XX century, Anna Reeves Jarvis wrote to the
intellectual influencers of that time to support her wish of setting up the
official Mother’s Day on her mother’s anniversary, the second Sunday of May.
This initiative was successful and in 1914 the US put
the Mother’s Day as an official celebration which is celebrated today in more
than 70 countries. Almost 40 got the date in May but each one organizes the
celebration by their way.
Remember that we don’t have to show our love to or mum
just this day. Every single day is the perfect day to show how much we love
them.

de nosotros celebramos el Día de la Madre el primer domingo de mayo. Sin
embargo esta celebración no ha sido siempre este día, ni es igual en todos los
países.
Las
primeras celebraciones del día de la madre se iniciaron en la Grecia antigua,
en las festividades en honor a Rhea, la madre de Júpiter, Neptuno y Plutón.
También en Egipto se rendía homenaje a la diosa Isis, Diosa de la maternidad y
del nacimiento.
Durante el
siglo XVII una forma de trabajar era emplearse en grandes casas y palacios. Un
domingo del año a los siervos y empleados se les daba el día libre para que
fueran a visitar a sus madres y se les permitía hornear un pastel para llevarlo
como regalo.
En el
siglo XX, Anna Reeves Jarvis escribió a personalidades intelectuales
influyentes de la época para que apoyaran su petición de instaurar en el
aniversario de la muerte de su madre la celebración oficial del Día de la
Madre, el segundo domingo de mayo.
Su
iniciativa no fue en vano y en 1914 EE.UU. convirtió el Día de la Madre en una
celebración oficial que hoy en día se festeja en cerca de 70 países. Unos 40
adoptaron la fecha en el mes de mayo, aunque cada uno la organizó a su manera.
Recuerda
que no solo hay que demostrarle a mamá todo lo que hace por nosotros un día
marcado en el calendario sino todos y cada uno de los días del año.
